INTRAcel is one of our most popular skin treatments at the Light Touch Clinic and Dr Natalie Blakely’s favourite treatment. This versatile treatment combines radiofrequency energy with micro-needling and can be used to rejuvenate ageing skin, increase luminosity and treat both active acne and the scarring that it leads behind.
INTRAcel for Skin Rejuvenation
By combining micro-needling with radiofrequency energy, INTRAcel delivers micro-wounds to the dermis and epidermis. This triggers your body to produce more collagen and elastin, the building blocks of healthy, supple skin. Over the coming weeks, this boost in collagen and elastin production reduces the appearance of wrinkles, tightens sagging skin and helps improve texture and tone. INTRAcel is a wonderful treatment for those who are a looking for an overall skin quality improvement.
We also have INTRAcel eye for rejuvenation which just uses the radiofrequency electrodes – no needles! – to rejuvenate the delicate skin around the eyes. This results in fewer fine lines and banishes dark circles.
INTRAcel for Acne
As featured in the Daily Mail, INTRAcel is a fantastic treatment for tackling acne and acne scars. INTRAcel helps treat active acne by destroying acne bacteria on the skin and prevents against future breakout by regulating the production of sebum (oil).
INTRAcel also helps remedy the scarring and pigmentation that acne leaves behind as it boosts the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This makes it a good treatment for those who no longer have acne but have pick-axe or rolling scars from previous breakouts.

INTRAcel uses a combination of non-invasive electrodes and fractional micro-needling to administer radio frequency heat energy into the dermis (middle layer of skin). The heat energy traumatises the dermis and prompts a repair response in which collagen and elastin – the proteins that make it firm and strong – are produced. All this is achieved without causing damage to the surface of the skin. What this means for you is firmer, thicker, rejuvenated skin without the superficial burns, pain and downtime associated with traditional laser treatments.
In addition INTRAcel is indicated in the treatment of acne and acne scars. The radio frequency heat energy reduces oil production and bacteria, two of the main causes of acne, while promoting collagen and elastin production to minimise the appearance of pick-axe scars.
What does the treatment involve?
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied 60 minutes prior to treatment in order to numb the skin. During the treatment a combination of electrobes and hair-fine insulated needles deliver radio frequency heat energy into the upper middle layers of skin stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. A cooling mask is applied to the skin post-procedure.
How long does it take?
Around 45 minutes.
Does it hurt?
You may experience a prickling sensation as the different heads are passed over the skin.
What will my skin look like afterwards?
During the treatment there is a small amount of pin-point bleeding. Afterwards your skin may feel slightly sore for a few hours. Residual redness lasts for around 24 hours in most cases. Other side effects may include puffiness and bruising around the eyes.
After a few days tiny scabs (which look like purple dots) appear where the needle marks were and your skin may become dry and flaky. After two weeks you should start to notice an improvement in your skin texture and tone as collagen stimulation and cellular regeneration are now well underway.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your skin but the average number is 3 treatments spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart.
How long before I see results?
Results usually peak 6 months after your final treatment and can last for up to 2 years for many patients.
