Dr Natalie Blakely, Medical Director of the Light Touch Clinic.
CoolSculpting is an award-winning fat-freezing treatment that is able to target and reduce stubborn body fat that is difficult to lose by diet and exercise alone.
The treatment works using the process of cryolipolysis or Fat Freezing. The unwanted fat is gently drawn into a vacuum where it is exposed to low temperatures which damage the fat cells, triggering their natural death. They are then naturally removed from the body over the coming weeks. Equipped with Freeze Detect technology CoolSculpting constantly monitors your skin’s temperature to prevent against freeze burn, making it a safe technology. CoolSculpting is also approved by the FDA.
Its proven results combined with it’s safety record has made CoolSculpting the world’s most popular non-invasive fat reduction treatment. Millions of treatments have been performed across the globe.
CoolSculpting is a specialist treatment, thorough training is needed to ensure maximum results. Both of our Body Contouring experts have undergone thorough training with Zeltiq (the manufacturers of CoolSculpting) to ensure that they know the latest techniques to sculpt the body.

CoolSculpting was developed by Harvard scientists who discovered that when fat cells are exposed to cold they become terminally injured and gradually die. After further research the scientists were able to pinpoint a precise temperature that destroyed fat without damaging nerves, skin and other surrounding tissue and the concept of CoolSculpting cryolipolysis was born.
The CoolSculpting machine comes with different sized heads that re-contour the most common fat-prone areas including the stomach and thighs. The fat is drawn into the head creating a vacuum and then cooled to a temperature that destroys the fat cells. It takes around 3 weeks for the fat cells to shrink and die during which time they are metabolised and excreted by the body as waste.
Does it hurt?
CoolSculpting is not painful however you may experience a feeling of pressure as the fat must remain in the head for one hour in order to freeze.
What’s the downtime?
Afterwards the area that has been treated feel cold and solid, like a butter stick, but within 10 minutes it should resume normal texture. The area may feel bruised for up to 2 weeks.
Where do the fat cells go?
When fat cells are exposed to cold they become terminally injured and gradually die. Over time, the body metabolises and excretes them with absolutely no increase in either cholesterol levels or fat levels in the blood.
Will it work for me?
The ideal candidate is within two stone of their ideal body weight with pockets of soft, pinchable fat.
How many treatments will I need?
Each CoolSculpting treatment can lead to a fat reduction of around 20-40% for most patients. You may require more than one treatment depending on the amount of fat to be treated. It there are several areas of concern we recommend our Treatment to Transformation Programme which delivers total body contouring.
How long do the results last?
CoolSculpting destroys fat cells so as long as you maintain your weight with normal diet and exercise the long-term results should remain stable.
What are the risks and complications?
All non-invasive procedures carry a small amount of risk which is why they are only administered after a face-to-face consultation with one of our doctors during which a full assessment will be carried out and a full list of cautions and contraindications discussed.
Is CoolSculpting my only option?
No, we also offer Vanquish for fat reduction. Before you undergo any treatment you will be invited for a consultation with one of our doctors who will help you decide which treatment option is most suitable.
CoolSculpting is very skilled treatment. Everyone has different body shapes and it is improtant for our practitioners to create a treatment plan which is tailored to your body’s unique curves.
