Dr Natalie Blakely, Bioidentical Hormone Specialist
BHRT is a natural hormone therapy treatment which rebalances hormones in patients, providing relief from a wide range of symptoms impacting overall health.
The process differs from more common synthetic hormone treatments as bioidenticals completely replicate a patient’s naturally occurring chemical structure. This means the hormones used in BHRT are identical to the hormones which are produced in your body.
This makes the bioidentical therapy process far more effective at restoring hormone imbalances which cause many menopause symptoms, PMT, bowel problems, hair loss or extensive hair growth, and many more issues.
To ensure bioidentical hormone therapy is suitable for you, you will first be invited to have a consultation with Bioidentical Hormone Specialist, Dr Natalie Blakely.
A blood sample will be taken during your consultation and sent off to our laboratory for analysis. If a hormone imbalance is diagnosed, Dr Natalie Blakely will create a custom-compounded hormone therapy plan that precisely matches your body’s needs.
Once your treatment plan has been setup, Dr Natalie Blakely will prescribe either a cream which is applied to the skin and can be easily absorbed, or a lozenge which will be taken orally.
Regular follow ups and monitoring are then setup to ensure you receive the best results.
Menopause symptoms are caused by low levels oestrogen and a change in your body’s balance of sex hormones.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a common treatment used by women to restore oestrogen levels and relieve menopause side effects. However, BHRT has more advantages as it uses unique hormones directly related to your molecular formula, making them far easier for your body to metabolise.
BHRT is effective at treating common symptoms of menopausal women, including:
Hormone replacement treatments are not limited to women who are already in menopause but can also be used to ease symptoms menopause transition (perimenopause) and postmenopause.
Perimenopause typically begins 4 to 10 years before a woman’s menstrual cycle finally ends and first starts when ovaries gradually produce less oestrogen and progesterone. These levels can fluctuate wildly in the last one or two years of perimenopause, causing common menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, vaginal dryness and night sweats which can be relieved by BHRT.
During postmenopause your hormone levels do not fluctuate as wildly as they did in perimenopause. However, many women will continue to experience hormone imbalances for a number of years after their menopause cycle has ended. As your body adapts to this aging process you may experience side effects including insomnia, incontinence, weight gain and vaginal bleeding. Bioidentical therapy can be used in the postmenopause period to provide relief from these symptoms.
PMS are physical, psychological and behavioural symptoms which happen in the weeks leading up to your period. During this menstrual cycle your hormone levels fluctuate causing common symptoms associated with PMS, including:
Regulating your hormones with bioidentical replacement therapy can help alleviate these symptoms by bringing your oestrogen and progesterone levels back to normal.
Menopause and PMS relief are two most common uses of BHRT in our patients, but many women benefit from the therapy to treat issues including weight fluctuations, hair loss or excessive hair growth, and even insomnia.

Many women benefit from using Bioidentical Hormone Therapy to treat a range of issues including:
A hormone imbalance can affect the way your body regulates weight, making it more and more difficult to lose weight through diet and exercise. This is especially true as you get older, with oestrogen levels and other hormones which help to control weight fluctuating before eventually decreasing.
Using a custom compounded hormone treatment like BHRT can help to naturally regulate the body’s process of managing weight, making it easier for you to control your weight through a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Oestrogen is a hormone related to hair growth. The fluctuating levels of oestrogen which happen during the menopause is why many women suffer from thinning hair, balding or even excessive hair growth on their arms, legs and face.
Here at the Light Touch Clinic, we can prescribe BHRT to women with these issues who are going through their menopause or are in the postmenopause phase.
Insomnia and general difficulties with sleeping are common in women who are going through their menopause, and women about to begin their menstrual cycle. This is because of fluctuations in your hormones, most notably your progesterone and oestrogen levels, both of which help promote sleep.
While there could be many factors causing a sleepless night, such as diet and stress, getting your hormones in balance is important for a good night’s sleep. BHTR can help regulate these ‘sleep-promoting’ hormones, helping your body be more capable of rest and relaxation.
What are bio-identical hormones?
