Thread veins, also known as spider veins, are a common concern for many. Not to be confused with varicose veins, these little imperfections can have a huge impact on an individual’s self-confidence. They may stop you from showing your legs during party season or they may ensure that you always cover your legs, even on a beach holiday! However, at Light Touch Clinic, we don’t think this should be the case, which is why we’re now offering sclerotherapy treatment to target pesky thread veins!
What Are Thread Veins?
In short, they are small clusters of veins that can appear blue or red and are visible under the surface of the skin. Naturally, some of our veins do tend to be visible or you may notice your own more when you’re cold, for example. Sadly, those with thread veins are often in no doubt as to whether or not they suffer from this condition.
As we mentioned earlier, they are not to be confused with varicose veins, which are often much more prominent than thread veins and will create bulges on the surface of the skin. Varicose veins can also be accompanied by aching and uncomfortable legs, swollen feet, and itchy skin on the affected area. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, we suggest you visit your GP. Please be advised that thread veins should not cause you any pain.
Thread veins typically appear on the legs and face and they tend to affect women more often than men. This could be due to hormonal fluctuations, as lower oestrogen levels can impact the strength of blood vessels and valves. Others may get them because they sit or stand for most of their day, but they’re also common during pregnancy or as a result of an injury.
In short, there are several reasons why you might be affected by thread veins, but how do we treat them?
Our New Sclerotherapy Treatment
Sclerotherapy is a highly effective treatment for thread veins. After just one session, yours might be completely eliminated! After an initial consultation, we will reduce the prominence of your afflicted veins through the use of a fine needle that injects a specialist solution under your skin. This will agitate the walls of the veins and cause them to collapse.
In some cases, you might need a couple of sessions to target particularly stubborn veins, but our team of experts will be able to let you know more when you visit us. There’s no need to worry about downtime as you will be able to resume your daily activities as soon as your treatment is finished. If you experience any mild bruising, this should fade within a week or two. We understand that you may have other questions about the procedure and what to expect, which is why we suggest getting in touch with our team at your earliest convenience.
