Pigmentation

Our specialists at Light Touch Clinic provide effective treatment for skin pigmentation, restoring an even skin tone.

About Pigmentation

The coloring of your skin, known as pigmentation, is determined by the amount of melanin your skin cells produce. When there is an issue with skin pigmentation, it typically stems from disruptions in the steady production of melanin, leading to skin discoloration. This discoloration can manifest as darker patches, known as hyperpigmentation, or lighter patches, known as hypopigmentation, each caused by different factors.

Hyperpigmentation commonly occurs in areas where the skin is most exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, shoulders, and chest. This condition is often due to sun exposure, which can cause age spots or sun spots, and melasma, where small darkened patches of skin develop. Changes in pigmentation can also be due to hormonal changes, especially those seen by a woman in pregnancy.

Hypopigmentation results in lighter skin patches due to decreased melanin production. This condition can appear as small patches or more widespread areas on the face or body. Hypopigmentation is often attributed to genetics, certain medical conditions, or skin injuries such as burns.
