If your hubby or partner is starting to rival you up top he’s not alone. Gynecomastia aka man-boobs or moobs are a ahem… growing problem for many men with a 44% rise in the number of men opting for surgery to get rid of them.
But for men who don’t want to go under the knife what’s the solution?
With around two thirds of UK men categorised as being overweight it’s no surprise that the vast amount of moobs are caused by excess fat so your starting point should be losing weight and building muscle.
Eat a healthy, balanced diet
‘Make changes to your diet you can live with indefinitely so you don’t return to your previous habits. So rather than restrict calories reduce your consumption of fatty, processed, sugary foods and eat more whole grains, fibre, vegetables, low-fat dairy and lean meat. Try to eat organically whenever possible. Man-boobs are made worse by a hormone imbalance caused by excess oestrogen which can have its roots in an over-processed, fatty diet,’ says Natalie Blakely.
Find an exercise program that adequately challenges you and provides progression so you can maintain it for years to come. A balance of cardio and weight training will help turn your man boobs into muscle. HIIT (high-intensity interval training) is a form of exercise in which you alternate between very intense anaerobic periods and slower recovery period for a shorter, more calorie-burning workout.
In addition build weight training and resistance exercises into your routine as the more muscle definition you have the more efficiently you’ll burn fat and the better your physique will look.
