Mirco-needling, also referred to as ‘Collagen Induction Therapy’ (CIT) or simply ‘skin needling’, is non-invasive skin treatment that aims to kick-start the skin’s natural healing process by triggering the produce of collagen and elastin.
The procedure can be used to treat:
- Sagging skin
- Enlarged pores
- Poor skin tone
- Red veins
- Acne scars
How it Works
Young and healthy looking skin contains a strong framework of collagen and elastin skin proteins. Together these are sometimes called the skin’s ‘youthful’ proteins and are responsible for providing a firm but supple texture while also maintaining the skin’s shape. As we grow older, our skin begins to lose collagen and elastin, causing the structure of this framework to weaken. This then leads to wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin.
Micro-needling uses 3mm long needles that have been specifically designed to stimulate the dermis layer of skin. The skin then naturally begins producing these youthful proteins more effectively, helping to rebuild the skin’s framework.
Due to the size of the tiny needles the procedure is often quite painless and can easily target delicate areas, making it an ideal treatment for the face and neck.
At the Light Touch Clinic we offer two micro-needling treatments, the first of which is the Dermaroller.
The procedure involves rolling the device across the skin to create thousands of microscopic holes in the dermis layer that encourages increased blood flow. This then prompts the skin to produce collagen and elastin proteins.
Another treatment our clinic offer’s is INTRAcel, which differs from regular micro-needling by also using electrodes to transmit radio frequency heat energy into the dermis.
INTRAcel not only encourages the rejuvenation of skin proteins, but can also help treat acne and acne scarring by reducing oil production and bacteria as well as promoting collagen and elastin production to minimise the appearance of scars.
It is always best to get a cosmetic consultation to determine which method of micro-needling is right for you.
