How Does it Work?
The Lunula Laser is a chiropodist and podiatrist-led laser which provides a simple and effective solution for treating onychomycosis (fungal nail infections). The patient’s foot is placed under the Lunula Laser where the pre-set laser will touchlessly and painlessly attack the fungus. As the laser will treat all affected nails on one foot simultaneously, it is quicker than traditional lasers.
Unlike traditional thermal lasers which destroy fungal infections using thermal heat alone, the Lunula laser uses photo-chemistry to kill the fungal spores. The Lunula Laser uses two wavelengths simultaneously to treat fungal nail infections without causing pain for most patients. The 405nm laser has an antimicrobial effect while the pulsed 635nm laser regenerates the infected area and stimulates the immune system.
In most cases, only four 12 minute sessions are required to treat the infection.
Is it safe?
Unlike heat-based lasers, which pose a number of risks such as pain, burning and necrosis, the Lunula Cold Laser carries virtually no risk to either the patient or the physician performing the procedure.

Does it hurt?
The Lunula Laser should not hurt whilst treating the nails or afterwards. This means you can exercise, work and wash as normal after your treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Usually, four 12 minutes sessions is all you will need to successfully kill the fungus.
Can the Lunula Laser be used to treat fingernails?
Yes, the device can be used to treat nails on both feet and hands.
Will the fungal nail infection return?
Unfortunately, people that have had a fungal nail infection are susceptible to reinfection after treatment. However, taking steps to improve foot hygiene can help minimalise your chance of reinfection such as spraying shoes with antifungal spray and paying extra attention when scrubbing your toes in the shower.
What are the symptoms of a fungal nail infection?
