DISCLAIMER: Everyone is unique. This means that sensitivity periods, treatment plans, treatment results and their longevity will vary from patient to patient. The information on this page is based on the average treatment experience. For more accurate information, you should make a consultation with one of our experts.
How Does it Work?
CoolSculpting was developed by Harvard scientists who discovered that when fat cells are exposed to cold they become terminally injured and gradually die. After further research the scientists were able to pinpoint a precise temperature that destroyed fat without damaging nerves, skin and other surrounding tissue and the concept of cryolipolysis was born.
The CoolSculpting machine comes with different sized heads that re-contour the most common fat-prone areas including the stomach and thighs. The fat is drawn into the head creating a vacuum and then cooled to a temperature that destroys the fat cells. It takes around 3 weeks for the fat cells to shrink and die during which time they are metabolised and excreted by the body as waste.
CoolSculpting is a specialist treatment approved by the FDA and extensive training is required before clinics can carry out any procedures.
Here at the Light Touch Clinic our experts have undergone thorough training directly with Zeltiq (the manufacturers of CoolSculpting) to ensure we know the latest techniques to safely and effectively target fat cells and sculpt your body.
To ensure maximum safety, the CoolSculpting machine is also equipped with Freeze Detect – a technology which constantly monitors your skin’s temperature to prevent against freeze burn.
Proven results combined a fantastic safety record has made CoolSculpting the world’s most popular non-invasive fat reduction treatment.
Is CoolSculpting Painful?
No. The treatment has been specifically designed to be as painless as possible. For the fat tissue to be frozen, the treatment area must remain in the CoolSculpting machine for up to an hour. During this time, you may experience slight feeling of throbbing or pressure while fatty cells become frozen.
What’s the Expected Recovery Time?
Full recovery can take up to two weeks. Immediately after the procedure, the treated area will feel hard and cold with skin tissue resuming to its normal texture within ten minutes. The area may be tender for around two weeks.
What Happens to the Frozen Fat Cells?
They naturally thaw and are then flushed from the body. Freezing fat cells causes them to deteriorate and eventually die. The body then begins to metabolise these dead fat cells which are then naturally excreted through the urinary system. This process has zero affect on cholesterol or fat levels in the blood.
Am I Eligible for CoolSculpting?
A patient of any weight is able to have the treatment. However, best results are seen in patients who have areas of soft ‘pinchable fat’ and are within two stones of their preferred weight.
How Many Treatments Would I Need?
Most patients require one to three treatments. Each round of CoolSculpting typically reduces fat by 20-40%*. Depending on the size of fatty cells in a single area, more than one treatment may be required.
If you have a number of fatty areas across the body that you would like to be reduced (such as flabby thighs, bingo wings, muffin top), then we recommend our Treatment to Transformation Programme which delivers total body contouring.
Are the Results Long Lasting?
Yes. Once the fat cells are frozen, destroyed by metabolisation, and naturally extracted by the body, your weight should remain stable. This is of course dependent on if you maintain a balanced diet and with frequent exercise.
Are There Potential Health Risks?
The risks are minimal. With any non-invasive procedure, there is a very small chance of complications. Due to this, all fat reduction treatments at the Light Touch Clinic, including CoolSculpting, will only be undertaken after a face-to-face consultation. This health assessment will always be conducted by one of our medical aestheticians, where the full list of cautions and contraindications will be discussed in detail with you.
All procedures carried out by the Light Touch Clinic will only ever be performed by highly trained practitioners.
Are There Alternatives to CoolSculpting?
Yes. Vanquish is an excellent fat reduction option and a genuine alternative to cryolipolysis (fat freezing).
Everyone is different. To help you decide which treatment option is the most suitable, you will be asked to join a consultation with one of our doctors. They will offer helpful advice, answer any questions or concerns, and run through the best treatment options available to you.
Outline The Patient Timeline For Me…
Step 1) Contact us to arrange a consultation. In this private one-on-one session you will have plenty of time to answer questions, discuss your concerns and create your CoolSculpting treatment plan.
Step 2) If you decide to go ahead with treatment and CoolSculpting is deemed suitable for you, your treatments can be booked in time blocks that suit you. For example, some patients like to have all their treatments done in one day whilst others prefer to break it down into smaller sessions to fit around commitments.
Step 3) On the day of your treatment, wear loose clothing and feel free to bring along a laptop or book to keep you occupied throughout your treatment. Be prepared for a little photo session before treatment as we will be taking some photographs for your medical file. We do have iPads at the clinic and a TV in our Coolculpting suite for you to watch Netflix on
Step 4) Your practitioner will go through your aftercare with you again and a review will be arranged in 3 months’ time. In between your treatment and your review, one of our front of house team will get in touch to see how you are doing.
Step 5) On the day of your review, try to wear the same clothing you wore to your treatment for a more accurate photo comparison. In private, your practitioner will go through your results with you and can plan further treatment if needed.
