CoolSculpting Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Light Touch Clinic

CoolSculpting Frequently Asked Questions

CoolSculpting is one of the most widely used non-surgical fat reduction treatments in the world and is also hugely popular with our own patients here at the Light Touch Clinic. The procedure is fast, effective, and offers a safe solution to reducing stubborn fat which can be card to shift through diet and exercise alone.

We provide everyone interested in CoolSculpting with an in-depth, one on one consultation to answer all questions and concerns, but below are some of the more common queries which are asked by our patients:

The Results

Q. Are Results Permanent?

A. Yes.

CoolSculpting is designed to freeze and kill fat cells. These dead fat cells are then naturally broken down by the body and removed. Once these fat cells are eliminated they do not return.

Q. Are Results Immediate?

A. No. Initial results can be seen after around 3 weeks. Full results can typically take up to 3 months.

This is due to the cryolipolysis fat freezing process which breaks down and destroys fat cells. These are then naturally removed by the body over the next 3 months. This is a highly effective and safe way to permanently remove fat cells from the body, but does take up to 3 months before the full results can be seen..

Q. How Much Weight Can I Lose?

A. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure. It’s designed to remove difficult to shift pockets of fat.

What CoolSculpting does do is reduce the number of fat cells by 20% to 25% within the treatment area. These fat cells are destroyed permanently. By combining the procedure with a healthy diet and exercise programme, patients can experience fantastic weight loss results.

The Treatment Process

Q. How Long Does the Procedure Last?

A. Around one hour.

However some smaller treatment areas can take as little as 35 to 40 minutes. The usual treatment time is one hour for an area of fat about the size of your hand.

Q. How Many Treatments Would I Need?

A. Between one and three.

You will be asked to come in for a consultation where our highly qualified practitioners will create a personalised CoolSculpting treatment plan, where the number of sessions you need will be explained.

Everyone is different, but typically love handles require one session per side, while larger surface areas of fat like the stomach or lower abdomen require two sessions.

Q. How Long Between Sessions?

A. That is entirely up to you. Some patients spread their treatments out whilst others spend the day at the clinic.

Q. How Cold does it Get?

A. -10 degrees Celsius.

This temperature is cold enough to freeze fat cells without doing any damage to healthy cells, making the procedure completely safe.

Q. What does CoolSculpting Feel Like?

A. This will differ from patient to patient, but many say that while the machine is active it feels similar to a slight pinching sensation. This minor pinching or tingling lasts around ten minutes while the fat cells cool. The treated area will soon become completely numb (similar to applying an ice pack).

The majority of our patients say they don’t experience any pain during the procedure*.

Q. Who will be Performing the Treatment?

A. Melisa French is our resident expert and all CoolSculpting treatments are carried out by her. She is a qualified Medical Aesthetician and highly experienced in all areas of body contouring.

Q. What Should You Wear?

A. Don’t worry, you won’t need to wear a hospital gown. Simply wear loose fitting clothes that allow easy access to the areas that will be treated.

Q. Can CoolSculpting be Performed at Home?

A. No.

No reputable company or clinic would ever suggest performing CoolSculpting in your home.

Some cheaper ‘DIY fat freezing at home’ kits claim to do the same thing as CoolSculpting but that is simply not true. CoolSculpting is safe, reliable, and the only treatment of its kind to be cleared by the FDA.

Q. Is CoolSculpting also for Men?

A. Yes. The treatment is completely unisex.

CoolSculpting has seen excellent results in tackling gynaecomastia (man boobs), and male patients often arrange appointments to contour their stomachs and lower abdomen area.

Post Treatment

Q. What Happens to the Fat?

A. Once that fat cells are frozen they die. These dead fat cells are then metabolized and are naturally broken down by the body over a number of weeks. All broken down fat cells are transported by the lymphatic system to be processed and permanently eliminated.

Q. Will there be any Swelling after Treatment?

A. Yes, swelling is quite normal after CoolSculpting, but some patents do not experience any swelling at all.

Q. How long does the Swelling Last?

A. Two weeks on average.

However, this can vary quite differently from patient to patient. For some the post treatment swelling can last only a couple of days. For others it feel swollen for up to four weeks.

Q. Will I Experience any Pain After the Treatment?

A. The majority of patients do not experience any pain after CoolSculpting, with many returning to the daily routine straight after treatment.

But every patient is different. Some may experience slight discomfort in the treated area which could include: aching, itching, tingling, numbness, sharp shooting pains, or a mild burning sensation under the skin.

Q. How long does the Pain Last?

A. The majority of patients do not experience any pain after CoolSculpting, with some experiencing discomfort.

However, everyone is different and in some cases patients might feel pain immediately after treatment or experience ‘delayed onset pain’. This may start a few days after treatment can could last around 14 days. This is rare but can occur in some instances.

If you are experiencing discomfort or any pain, our post care team will be there to help and answer any questions or concerns that you have.

Q. Will There be any Bruising?

A. Some patients may experience mild bruising on the treated area.

Q. Why is Massaging Important after Treatment?

A. A two-minute massage is given to the treated area immediately after each cycle of treatment.

This massage is important as it helps breakdown the fat cells and accelerates the final results and improves overall fat loss.

The two-minute massage is the most recommended, but in some instances the massage may be up to ten minutes.

Q. Will CoolSculpting Leave Loose Skin?

A. No*.

CoolSculpting is designed to slowly remove fat from the body, allowing the skin time to retract and regain its elasticity.

Q. Will the Fat Return?

A. No*.

With CoolSculpting, once the fat is eliminated it is eliminated for good. However, the remaining fat cells in other areas of the body will still grow in size with weight gain. It is important to maintain a healthily weight through a balanced diet and regular exercise.

Q. What Aftercare can I expect?

A. Here at the Light Touch Clinic we have award-winning customer service. Your CoolSculpting treatment will come with a bespoke plan of action, including an aftercare service with a review to see how you are getting on. We are always free to answer your questions or post-treatment concerns.
