The face is one part of the body that is constantly on show and the first thing other people see. Everyday, the face and the features it holds are used in many ways, for communicating, expressing emotions and performing functions such as eating and drinking. As time passes these frequent facial movements, as well as the processes that occur during ageing, can impact on the appearance of the face. A variety of visible alterations become apparent and one of these is forehead lines. These wrinkles form horizontal lines that run across the forehead and will often start off as fine lines that develop further over time, to become deeper-set, permanent creases.
The skin’s internal structure changes through the ageing process, as levels of collagen, hydration and elastin start to diminish. This results in the skin becoming weak and dry, that eventually leads to wrinkles. In the case of forehead lines, the fragile structure of the skin teams up with facial movements for their production. Movements of the eyes contribute to facial expressions, as the frontalis muscles raise and lower the eyebrows to show delight, surprise and worry. This causes an indentation in the underlying tissues which has the ability to flatten out in a youthful facial structure. In a more mature structure this indentation becomes more persistent, which the skin settles into.
The application of facial fillers or wrinkle relaxing injections can help to soften the appearance of forehead lines and create an even surface to the skin on this upper area of the face. An individual approach will be taken towards each patient’s needs at Light Touch Clinic, taking the most appropriate approach for improving this concern. A bespoke plan of treatments can add volume to this facial feature or inhibit the muscles from producing lines, giving a happier, more relaxed look.
