The Perfect Cleanse
As you might have seen in the press, the government is upping its game when it comes to minimising waste and protecting the environment. A few years ago, a 5p fee for disposable shopping bags was introduced and plastic straws are in the process of being banned. It has been suggested that face wipes are the next target and will be phased out in the not-too-distant future too.
By cutting down the amount of single use items, together we can better tackle the amount of plastic contaminating the environment and entering the food chain. BBC have published some pretty startling statistics about how much plastic is really recycled – only 9%! (see the full report here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-43817287).
No make-up wipes? No problem.
At the Light Touch Clinic, we always promote proper skin cleansing (see Dr Natalie’s popular ‘How To Wash Your Face‘ Video below). Makeup wipes can be helpful for correcting makeup mistakes but they should never be substituted for a proper cleanse.
Instead, we recommend that skin is thoroughly washed with a cleanser (double cleansing is preferred if you wear make-up) to help remove grime and other debris from the face. We then encourage patients to follow up with an exfoliating product to slough away dead cell build up. This can be used a few times a week if the patient has sensitive skin. For patients with oily skin or acne-prone skin, it can be advantageous to use a salicylic acid based toning product afterwards.
Not sure what cleanser is best for you? We’ve outlined some of our clinic favourites below:
If your skin is dry or perhaps mature Dr Levy 3Deep Cleanser is a great choice as the creamy formula is packed with rice beads to gently cleanse the skin. It can also be used as a quick face mask and an exfoliation treatment. This cleanser is also available as part of our Dr Levy Gift Sets.
ZENii’s Chamomile and Papaya Cleanser is a good for those with normal or oily skin types. This foaming cleanser uses papaya enzyme to gently exfoliate the skin and unclog pores.
Foamacleanse by ZO is another option for those with combination or oily skin. It’s gently enough to be used twice a day and deeply cleanses the skin. It also contain botanical extracts to soothe and protect the skin.
If you have acne-prone or very oily skin, in the evening it is a good idea to follow up your cleanse with a product that helps regulate oil production and deeply cleanses the pores. One example is ZENii’s Salicylic Exfoliator which contains Salicylic Acid. This ingredient is a Beta Hyrdroxy Acid which means that it can cut through oil on the skin to remove impurities in the pores. This can help prevent against breakouts and blackheads.
If you would like help putting together a skincare routine, you can book a complimentary skincare consultation with one of our medical aestheticians. They will examine your skin and listen to your skin concerns or goals to create a regime that works for you.
