We are delighted to announce that we now offer private ultrasound scans at the Light Touch Clinic. Our sonographer works the last Wednesday of every month and offers all the standard scans for wellness and pregnancy including:

Men’s Health:

Upper Abdomen & Pelvis: Detailed scan to assess all the major organs in the upper abdomen and pelvis for men over the age of 16. Fasting 4-6 hours prior to the scan and a full bladder is required.

Upper Abdomen: Detailed scan of the upper abdomen to assess the major abdominal organs for men over the age of 16. Fasting with clear fluids only is required 4-6 hours prior to the scan.

Kidneys, Ureters, Bladder (KUB) and Prostate: Detailed scan to assess the kidneys, ureters, bladder and prostrate for men over the age of 16. A full bladder is required.

Testes and Scrotum: A detailed scan to assess both testes and scrotum. A scan of both kidneys may be necessary in some circumstances. No preparation is required for this scan.

Abdominal Aorta: A detailed scan to assess the main blood vessel leading away from the heart. The scan is particularly recommended for men over the age of 60 who have ever smoked and for anyone with a family history of abdominal aortic aneurysm. Both kidneys will also be assessed.

Female Health:

Pelvic Scan: Detailed ultrasound assessment of the uterus, endometrium and ovaries for premenopausal women. Full bladder required. A transvaginal scan by be required.

Pelvic Scan – Fertility: Detailed ultrasound of the uterus, endometrium and ovaries for women of child-bearing age undergoing IVF. Full bladder required. A transvaginal scan may be required.

Pelvic Scan – Fertility + Bloods: Detailed ultrasound scan of the uterus, endomentrium and ovaries, including a wide range of blood tests often required prior to or during IVF treatment. This scan is performed transvaginally, a full bladder therefore is not required.

Pelvic Scan – Post Menopause: Detailed scan for post-menopausal women to assess the uterus, endometrium and ovaries, plus a CA125 blood test for ovarian cancer screening

Pregnancy Scans:

Early Scan: 6-11 weeks. To check foetal heartbeat and multiple pregnancies.

Dating Scan: 12-16 weeks. To determine the number of weeks and to estimate the due date.

Gender Scan: 16-32 weeks. To determine the sex and for a general wellbeing check.

Anomaly Scan: 18-24 weeks. A detailed scan to rule out any structural anomalies.

Growth Scan      24-35 weeks. To determine the foetal weight by taking growth measurements and to assess general foetal wellbeing.

Presentation Scan: 37-40 weeks. To determine the foetal position prior to giving birth and general wellbeing.

Non Invasive Prenatal Test:  10 weeks – term. The most accurate test for Downs Syndrome, other chromosomal anomalies and some rare genetic anomalies. This test is not routinely available on the NHS.

Nuchal Translucency:  11-13.6 weeks. A test combining the nuchal translucency, bloods and maternal age to determine the risk of Downs Syndrome, other chromosomal abnormalities and heart defects.
