The Menopause

Also referred to as the ‘change in life’ by some of our patients, the menopause is the natural transition that marks the end of a woman’s fertility and causes the sudden, or slow, decline of periods. According to official statistics, the average age of woman to begin the menopause is 51, but age ranges vary between 45 and 55, and in rarer cases, earlier.

Women are considered to have entered the menopause after twelve months without a period.

BHRT Treatment for Menopause Symptoms

Here at the Light Touch Clinic, we offer Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) to help ease the pain and discomfort caused by menopausal symptoms.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a common treatment for women seeking relief from the side effects caused by the menopause. However, BHRT differs from this treatment as it uses unique hormones directly related to patient’s molecular formula.

By taking a blood sample, Dr Natalie Blakely, our in-house Bioidentical Hormone Specialist, is able to tailor replacement hormones to be identical to your own on a molecular level.
These replacement hormones then balance and replenish in the body naturally, which can help treat the following menopausal symptoms:

  • Hot flushes
  • Weight gain
  • Mood changes, including mood swings, anxiety, depression, increased irritability
  • Low libido and vaginal dryness
  • Joint aches, pains and general discomfort
  • Problems with concentration and memory
  • Insomnia
  • Incontinence
  • Tenderness in breasts

BHRT Treatment Process

To accurately assess individual needs, patients will first be invited to have a consultation with Bioidentical Hormone Specialist, Dr Natalie Blakely. A blood sample will be taken during your consultation and sent off to our laboratory for analysis, allowing Dr Natalie Blakely to create a bespoke Bioidentical Hormone treatment plan that precisely matches your body’s needs.

Once your treatment plan has been setup, Dr Natalie Blakely will prescribe either a cream which is applied to the skin and can be easily absorbed, or a lozenge which will be taken orally.

Regular follow ups and monitoring will be needed to ensure the best results.

How does it work?

Whether you are in the perimenopause stage or postmenopause stage, bioidentical hormone therapy at the Light Touch Clinic can help replenish and balance your hormone levels. This can relieve the symptoms associated with menopause, resulting in a better quality of life for yourself.

What is Perimenopause?

This phrase literally means ‘around the menopause’ and is used to describe the years of transition before a woman’s final menstrual cycle and the year after their final menstrual flow. During this period, fertility reduces significantly but it is not considered impossible yet. As oestrogen levels fluctuate, you may experience some unpleasant side effects (see above).

Postmenopause

After a woman has not had a period for at least 12 months, she is considered to be in the postmenopause phase. During this time, a woman’s reproductive hormone levels will drop and fluctuate, causing symptoms similar to those that accompany the perimonopause stage and are more consistant. Additional symptoms in this phase include:

  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Mood changes
