Hyperhidrosis
Sweating is a normal and natural body function which helps regulate body temperature. For some people, excessive sweating, causing unsightly damp patches can be very embarrassing. Muscle-relaxing injections are an extremely effective treatment for excessive sweating in the under arm area, palms and soles of feet.
The treatment takes about 30 minutes and takes a few days to take effect. The results should last about 6 months before a new course of treatment is indicated.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Generally, for people suffering from excessive sweating, it has been a problem for most of their lives and predominantly affects the underarm, palms of hands and soles of feet. The problem may have started in childhood or early adolescence and worsened at puberty, persisting into adulthood.
Treatment of excessive sweating in the underarm with muscle-relaxing injections has FDA approval. Dr Natalie Blakely will administer a number of tiny injections into the underarm area. This works by blocking nerve endings that supply the sweat glands, temporarily stopping the sweating. One treatment will generally last between 6 -9 months. Once the treatment wears off it can be repeated as often as is necessary.
The Consultation
The Doctor/patient consultation will last for approximately twenty minutes. During this time Dr Natalie Blakely will establish how severe the excessive sweating is and if there are any underlying medical reasons why it occurs. If Muscle-relaxing injections are deemed an appropriate treatment for your condition they can be administered during this consultation.
The Treatment
The treatment of hyperhidrosis will take approximately 20 minutes. The Doctor will inject muscle-relaxant into several areas in the underarm area. The treatment should be relatively pain free with most people being able to tolerate the treatment well. Immediately after the treatment the patient can resume daily activities with absolutely no recovery time necessary.
