Mica 1

Loved by staff and patients alike, Mica Mineral Makeup is a bestseller at the Light Touch Clinic. In this week’s blog post we take a look at what makes mineral makeup different and why it’s great for your skin.

What is Mineral Makeup?

As hinted by its name mineral makeup uses minerals such as zinc oxide and iron oxides. This type of makeup places a focus on using fewer ingredients and leaves out preservatives (such as parabens) and chemical dyes. Mineral makeup has been around for while, but it has recently gained a lot of attention in the media for its skin health benefits.

What are the Advantages?

One of the main advantages of mineral makeup is that it is free from preservatives, fragrance and parabens. This makes mineral makeup suitable for sensitive skin types or those with acne-prone skin. Indeed, cosmetic surgeons often only let their patients wear mineral makeup after surgery!

As well as covering up any imperfections and evening out your skin tone, mineral makeup is good for your skin. For examples, zinc oxides and titanium dioxide are both natural sunscreens and have anti-inflammatory properties which means that they can soothe the skin.

Another advantage of mineral makeup is that it is multi purpose. For example, our Mica pigments can be mixed with lip balm for custom lipstick or combined with clear nail polish for a unique nail colour.

Do I apply Mineral makeup the same way I would traditional makeup?

When applying mineral makeup, you will need to take a different approach as to how your apply makeup. One of the most important things that you will have to remember is that a little bit of makeup goes a long way!

Invest in a good set of brushes. We love the brushes made by Mica, particulary the Kabuki brush for applying the mineral foundation. If you are unsure how to apply this makeup, why not book a makeup lesson with Fariba? In addition to showing you the best way to apply mineral makeup she can also pick out shades that will complement your natural skin tone.
