Hormones And Him
It’s no secret that as women age their bodies go through certain hormone changes that consequently result in the cease of the menstrual cycle. This is known as the “Menopause” and is commonly defined as the 12 months following a woman’s final period.
In most cases, this happens between the ages of 45 and 55 and can be a rather stressful time that a lot of women have come to fear, due to certain symptoms and what the Menopause has come to signify for some. But it may come as a surprise to you to learn that hormone changes like this aren’t exclusive to women, and in actual fact there has been a noticeable increase the “Male Menopause” in recent years.
Men have hormones too!
That’s right guys, more and more men are reporting similar symptoms to the ones women experience during menopause. However, unlike women, hormone production in men does not cease entirely and the decline in testosterone is a much slower process. This can also occur as a result of certain conditions, such as diabetes, as well as ageing.
Potential symptoms include depression, fatigue, weakness and sexual difficulties to name but a few, but there are treatments available to help combat these symptoms and make coping with testosterone deficiency a little easier. Alongside simple lifestyle changes, such as dieting and exercise, there are some medications that could be appropriate and now there is even the option of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.
