Acne scarring

Our Medical Aesthetic Clinic combines our Doctor’s experience of treating active acne with a range of effective solutions to deal with the scarring which can remain once the acne is dormant. Scarring will depend upon the severity of the active disease and the skin type and condition.

Dermal Filler

We can sometimes fill individual "Icepick" scars with small amounts of filler, this will have the effect of making the scar less obvious and making the skin appear smoother. The hyaluronic acid in the filler attracts water to it, plumping the skin, which will also help the skin appear smoother.

DermaRoller™

The Genuine Dermaroller can be effective in dealing with scarring. The medical micro-needling device causes tiny punctures in the skin. These can help break down scar tissue. This trauma to the skin also causes the body to create new collagen and skin cells as part of a wound healing response. New Collagen makes the skin firmer and smoother. Normally a course of Dermaroller treatments would be required, with treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart to allow new collagen to grow.

Obagi Nu-Derm System

The Obagi Nu-Derm System is a powerful prescription only skin care treatment. It works at the cellular level, therefore working where skin regeneration begins. Skin cells mature and migrate to the surface approximately every 28 – 40 days. The dead cells remain on the surface for another 12 days before sloughing off. Obagi Nu-Derm encourages growth of the structural components of the skin, the elastin and collagen. When we have more collagen, the skin becomes smoother and firmer. This can help reduce the appearance of acne scarring.
